Care in Peru - Daily life

6.50 am: Wake up, get dressed, brush teeth and wash face but too cold to shower.

7 - 7.30: breakfast with family. eating is slow: takes a while to prepare the food, have to have tea before and after. not an eat-and-run type of thing. talk to family over breakfast, tell them what time to expect me home.

7.30: leave to catch the bus. usually a ten minute wait in the station as the bus fills up (gets packed to bursting).

8 - 8.15: arrive at the kindergarten. help set up the day's activities, greet kids and parents as they arrive.

8.30 - 11.15: work: run activities with students (either your own or ones specified by the teacher). draw up worksheets. help the students with the work they do at their desks.

11.15 - 12ish: recess and lunch. generally supervise.

12ish - 1pm: back to the classroom

1 - 1.30: see the students off, clean up the classroom. catch the bus home

2ish: arrive home

My afternoons were free to spend as I liked. Sometimes I would read or practice Spanish. Other times I would meet up with other volunteers to explore or just play cards. I would eat my evening meal with my host family who were always eager to hear about my day. I spent most weekends with other volunteers visiting local ruins, shopping or tasting Cuzco's nightlife!
